South Dakota: Black Hills untouched by roadless plan

Monday, June 1st, 2009

Note that the Blue Ribbon Coalition chimes in on this one pointing out that the Clinton rule did not prohibit motorized recreation in those areas. That’s funny since they spread massive amounts of misinformation telling everyone that it in fact did. The plan allowed for existing, legal trails to continue operating. That’s a far cry from what the Blue Ribbon Coalition really wants.

Snowmobilers sue over lynx habitat

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

What kind of person sues to stop the protection of a very rare species so they can joy ride like a child?

Well, it appears a person who is incredibly self-involved, with little ability to think outside of their own immediate desires and needs.

Feds reviewing BLM evidence from illegal ATV ride

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

The fact that BLM officials and local law “enforcement” even let this happen is very disturbing. What would a police force do in a major city if a horde of people engaged in criminal activity? There would be tear gas, arrests and stun guns.

Officials are now holding late night stakeouts in attempts to combat some of this behavior. It seems a good portion of those doing this are teens, but many adults partake in the activity as well.

The question is how will Salazar respond? Will he respond at all?

What they don’t realize is that 90% of the lower 48 is already roaded, motorized and trailed. If they want to use motors, they can walk right out their front door and enjoy everything that anyone who likes motors could ever want. Sadly, these people also want the last rare pieces of land that don’t allow motors. This behaviour is basically created by a real lack of self awareness on an individual basis.

Montana: Snowmobilers in Little Belts set off avalanches

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

These guys were purposely going high up the unstable slopes, in what is described as “high marking”. What a completely pointless activity. First, it’s a waste of natural resources. Second, it’s incredibly stupid in terms of your own personal safety. And lastly, who knows the effects this has on denning animals, or possible wolverine in the area or other mountain slope animals that get socked in by these ma-caused avalanches.

I don’t see any instance of loss of ORV privileges under the sentencing. That’s too bad.

ATV users losing trails due to abuse

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

The article states there are mom and pop users who obey the law, and they are losing privileges due to a group of people who simply can’t follow the law. That’s too bad because many ATVs actually get much better gas mileage than many cars and trucks, and are an ideal alternative for rural commuting.
