Great Lakes public land hammered by climate change

Thursday, July 14th, 2011

I noticed these changes years ago. The biggest impact at this point appears to be moose and birds. Also, there’s a massive increase in ticks and tick diseases thanks to the warmer winters and unchecked logging. The primary carrier of lyme is the white-footed mouse, which flourishes in forest openings of ten acres or less. So these changes have directly impacted humans, as well.

Unless something is done, it’s only going to get worse.

Obama admin continues to uphold Bush era policy

Friday, December 10th, 2010

What a massive disappointment Obama has been.

The Obama administration is retreating on long-delayed environmental regulations — new rules governing smog and toxic emissions from industrial boilers — as it adjusts to a changed political dynamic in Washington with a more muscular Republican opposition.

“We can’t wish away global warming” – Al Gore

Monday, March 1st, 2010

Gore is fighting back against critics in an op-Ed in the New York Times. He makes some valid points about outliers. Gore is correct in his assertion that there will always be mistakes in science. That is part of it. You can’t dismiss a sound house because a nail was not flush or because a roof tile came loose. These things happen.

Grizzly bears moving into polar bear territory

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

This is not good news for polar bear cubs. Grizzly bears are more agressive than polar bears. There has never been a docuemted case of grizzly bears in Wapusk National Park and the surrounding area except for the past 10 years. Still denying climate change?

Climate change causing wolverine decline

Friday, February 5th, 2010

Such cheery news this week.

The culprit is receding snowpack around the globe, something the wolverine absolutely requires in order for them to feed on ungulates which could not survive the winter/deep snow.

Obama’s climate change elephant

Monday, February 1st, 2010

Great article over at Daily Kos.

The article writer makes a good point that Obama needs to speak directly to the people on this. He is so much more effective when he takes control of the issues. The Senate is very impotent right now for no real reason.

Montana: National Forests might get $20 million to fight pine beetle

Sunday, January 24th, 2010

Will it do anything? Probably not. If we want to fight the pine beetle, we need to reduce our climate altering emissions.

Global warming to keep hitting northern Rockies

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

Bad news for the last best intact ecosystem in the lower 48.

By 2080, temps could cause two additional months of drought! Disruption of carbon uptake could force the area trees to actually release carbon by the end of the century.

What are we leaving for our kids?

Montana: Pine beetles hit Helena National Forest hard

Monday, January 4th, 2010

It looks like the main cause of this alrger than usual outbreak is the lack of severe cold snaps which would normally occur in this area. Another climate change symptom, no doubt.
