There is an ongoing court battle over the use of traps in Maine and how it affects the rare lynx. Usually the lynx survive the traps(most likely maimed), sometimes they do not. Two lynx were killed last yar by “body gripper” traps. It looks like Maine hasn’t done a thing since the lynx was listed. Sad.
This site has been quite clear before – trapping has no place in the ethical world of the modern sportsman.
None.
However, state and federal agencies are investigating the case of a lynx that was caught in a trap near Rangeley and subsequently shot and killed by a bird hunter.
I don’t understand why people want to kill these cats. There aren’t many left. They are one of the most intelligent and stealthy creatures in the woods. They aren’t big enough to pose a threat to man and they stay away from people. States should just plain make it illegal to kill a lynx in any way, shape or form.
