Looks like no one read the actual legislation before the bill was signed.
Brilliant.
visitors would be able to pack heat in plain view of the public while in Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks.
The interpretation raises the possibility that those who tread the shores of Jenny Lake and the boardwalks of Old Faithful could brandish rifles and sidearms. For conservation groups and rangers, the specter looms of backcountry travelers arming themselves for self-defense and poachers wandering the woods with impunity.
Hey kids, lets go to the park next week and watch fear mongering guys carrying around live guns, doesn’t that sound like fun? Then afterwords we can go have a nice picnic lunch at Looney Tunes Mountain.
Nothing says “family and the outdoors at Yellowstone” like pale angry paranoid guys brandishing weapons. What’s that? A photographer got too close to a bison and charged, well don’t worry! Whiplash Johnny is here to save the day with his magnum .44. Want to watch elk and wildlife? Sounds good to me…but first explain to your kids why that 50 year old man is playing cowboy over there with a rifle slung over his back in the middle of a tourist exhibit on the side of the road. If your kid asks you “dad, is he going to shoot the elk”, just reply “no honey, he’s just really stupid”.
True it is kinda ironic that they have allowed guns into a National Park, I’m really surprised actually. But who cares, I don’t care personally, I do not frequent such Disney Land type places. I prefer the High Lonesome of the Frank Church, or the Bitter root Range when I can actually make it that far north.. As far as some dude tossing a empty rifle over his shoulder and parading around in the park, who knows, some dolts might do it, I wouldn’t assume they are stupid though, maybe they just want to giggle at all the silly looks they get.. Don’t worry Mike, if a Grizz was mauling you I wouldn’t hurt him/her..It’s just nature man..
I don’t see why you are afraid of people carrying weapons – maybe you should restrict what you watch on TV?
Everybody carried firearms in their vehicles/trailers in the 60′s – there wasn’t a problem. Why do you think there would be a problem now?
And are you really so lame as to give that sort of answer to your child?
The firearm prohibition in Yellowstone never made sense in the first place. I’m glad it is gone. It is absolutely silly to take a lawful activity in the bordering states and make it unlawful once you enter the park.
One more thing – if your CongressCritter didn’t read this bill, are you sure you want them messing with health care?
Don – I’m not afriad of people carrying weapons, I’m afraid of stupid people carrying weapons.
Ever been to Yellowstone? For some reason, it brings out the stupid in many people. Being far from substantial amounts of law enforcment and larger cities seems to have this effect on some people.
I have no problem with people carrying weapons in their trailers or vehicles. But what the new bill does is allow people without permits to openly carry loaded firearms all over the park. That I have a problem with.
I don’t think it’s silly for the rules to change when entering national parks. These are areas with wildlife not used to being hunted/shot at, and places where families and people are close together while camping at night. The Parks have been the safest place in America for decades. There’s no reason to change any rules.
As for congress and health care, I trust that moving in a direciton of reform is better than keeping the status quo which is proving disastrous for this country. I;m sure any bill produced will have some negative side effects, but ultimately the positives will outweigh the bad.
