Thursday, February 26th, 2009

NPR is streaming the new album in it’s entirety and let me tell you that it’s easily album of the year so far. A fantastic record. For those not familiar, Neko has an amazing voice and leans towards an Americana/alternative sound.

Pre-order is only 7 bucks. That’s a steal:

Edit: This is getting a bump because honestly it’s the best album I’ve heard in the last year or so.

Republican Bobby Jindal thinks volcano monitoring is “wasteful” (video)

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

In one of the dumbest comments in recent memory, Gov. Bobby Jindal bashed volcano monitoring as “wasteful” last night in his “response” to Obama’s speech.

I guess this explains Bush’s response to Katrina as well. “Oh well”. Excuse me, but wouldn’t you want to know when a volcano could erupt considering a large portion of this country lives next to them?

Watch the video and see for yourself:

“140 million for something called volcano monitoring”

LOL! You can’t make this stuff up, people.

Colorado: Yellowstone wolf found in state

Let’s hope this is the start of new wolf packs in Colorado.

Florida: Developer clears land within 50 feet of active eagle’s nest

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

Anyone with a brain knows this is against federal law, and most likely state law. There are three bald eagles *in* the nest, and some little eaglets.

Interesting that people are even denying owning the land. Wouldn’t a simple investigation reveal the owner and the person who broke the law? Supposedly the eagles are being and protected and there’s a stop work order in place, but you have to wonder.

Montana: The Nature Conservancy buys 111,740 acres from Plum Creek

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

This is outstanding news for anyone who has followed the Plum Creek Nightmare of the last few decades. This purchase was focused in the beautiful Swan Valley. While the land will still allow timber cutting, the chances of subdividing and development are removed. Cost? $250 million.

Lynx critical habitat increases 20-fold

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

Originally, Julie MacDonald (an anti-science Bushy in the Interior Department) interfered with decisions by the USFWS concerning this habitat.

Now, several new states will be added to the list and acreage will increase on already included states such as Minnesota and Montana.

It’s fantastic to see science taking precedent in this situation. The lynx needs it.

Elections have consequences, and tonight those last few rare lynx now have a chance to reclaim some long lost ground.

Basically, Altrec is having a huge sale and then allowing you to add another 20% off with coupon code “EPIC20″, “mojo20″, “marmot15″(15% off Marmot clothing), “mountain15″(Mountain Hardwear stuff in general) – enter it at checkout, whichever code works for you. I have been stocking up on gear for the summer/fall/next winter and saving a ton.

New polls show massive support for Obama

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

68% for the Washington Post/ABC poll
63% for the NYT/CBS poll.

We are only a month in and conservative fear mongers are already freaking out. They seem to forget that Republicans were the ones in power the last eight years. These were the people that:

1. caused the recession
2. had the highest spending in U.S. history
3. started the unpopular Iraq War
4. ransacked the environment
5. weakened federal regulation (see peanut poisoning)

The list goes on and on. One month in.

Maryland: Eagles nest with possible eggs to be destroyed

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

Looks like this nest was close to the airport, which of course could cause problems. So, we haven’t figured out yet how to build a plane that doesn’t get owned by lEEt birds?

Type Zero civilization, baby.

Economy going bad? People not eating out and buying your beef?

Blame wolves.

The lunacy of Wyoming strikes again.
