But the latest shaking is notable for the number of tiny temblors and their intensity, according to a statement yesterday from the University of Utah, where scientists monitor seismic activity in Yellowstone. (Yellowstone is located mostly in the northwest corner of Wyoming.)

Elk once roamed the region but were wiped from the area by the mid-1800s by overhunting and loss of habitat. But officials began reintroducing the elk earlier this decade as part of an effort to rebuild native plant and animal populations.

Not sure what this solves, or even really accomplishes. We do know however that the road densities in the CN-NF are way out of balance.

The U.S. Forest Service has agreed over the next three years – 2009 to 2011 – not to issue citations to those who are using roads with motorized vehicles that were to be closed.

Smith said the man was with a party of bear hunters when the incident occurred. The bear was chased up into a tree and shot by the hunters before leaving the tree and attacking the hunter.

Navy, environmentalists settle sonar lawsuit

The Navy said Saturday the deal reached with the Natural Resources Defense Council and other groups requires it to continue to research how sonar affects whales and other marine mammals.

58 House membmers ask Obama to end rushed oil and gas leases

Fifty-eight U.S. House members wrote Barack Obama on Monday asking him to cancel just-auctioned-but-not-yet-finalized oil and gas leases in Utah, and asked him to dump new resource management plans that allowed those auctions last week.
