I suspect these men have been misled, and Bosworth did not mention that he worked for Mark Rey when he was chief of the USFS. Public access will be improved, but large tracts of commercial timberland will be turned into development land, the public will gain nothing momentarily, and Plum Creek will make hundreds of millions of dollars.

The 1.8 million-acre Gallatin National Forest abuts Yellowstone National Park and employs about 175 people. The Custer, headquartered in Billings, is a 1.3 million-acre forest that employs 80 people.

Bear attack “documentary” causes outrage

State wildlife biologists call the self-proclaimed “documentary” misleading and worse. The bear authority who worked with the filmmakers says he got snookered. And some average citizens – taken in by the show’s appearance of having been filmed in the wild – are outraged that television producers would be teaching grizzlies to attack lifelike dummies, tear into tents and break into SUVs.

Utah: Zion National Park may set attendance record

Park spokesman Ron Terry says the park is on track to surpass the record, though bad weather in the last few weeks hasn’t helped. Up to six inches of snow fell on the canyon floor.

“Whitebark pine forests are being decimated throughout their range by an array of threats that have emerged in high elevation environments as a result of climate change, including swarming insects and an invasive disease,” said a NRDC news release.

DENVER — Federal officials say they will correct an oversight that resulted in 13,000 acres of roadless forest land in western Colorado being put up for bid to oil and gas developers.
