The ban on open fires, including campfires and charcoal grills, starts at 12:01 a.m. today and will continue until officials are convinced enough rain has fallen to dampen fire danger.

Around 50 searchers set out shortly after daybreak this morning too look for Yi-Jien Hwa, who was last seen on August 11th, and planned to finish his back country hike through Glacier on August 18th. His car was found in the Logan Pass Visitors Center parking lot.

Wisconsin: Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest bans firewood

The forest doesn’t want firewood imported from anywhere south of Highway 29, stretching from Green Bay to the east and Prescott to the west.

The lake itself which in the spring is home to one of the largest breeding colonies of American white pelicans in North America.

North Dakota: An important wilderness proposal

The proposed Prairie Legacy Wilderness will not be a contiguous unit. The coalition has designated six parcels for wilderness status, five diffused across the Badlands of western North Dakota, and a sixth in the Sheyenne National Grasslands southwest of Fargo.

What: 106,577 acres of the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest in the Cascade mountains. Unlike most other wilderness areas in Washington, Wild Sky includes low-elevation forests.
