Crazy Alert: U.S. to consider slaughtering Yellowstone elk so non-native cows don’t get a rare illness

It’s these kinds of plans that prove mankind really hasn’t come all that far – at least at this point.

“We’ve got way too many elk,” said John Scully, a rancher living in Montana’s Madison Valley. “Clearly with so many elk, the risk rises. We need to reduce their numbers.”

What kind of clueless jackass moves to elk country and then complains about too many elk?

I’ve sided with ranchers in terms of keeping open space for a long time. Anti-wildlife ranchers are still better than subdivisions(although I detest the mentality). But this is a completely idiotic position. I can gaurantee that public opinion will always favor conservaiton in and around Yellowstone. If the ranchers press, they will only dig a deeper hole in terms of favorability.
