“Lunging” is far different from “attacking”. Police wound cougar, creating more dangerous situation, then shoot again in crowded city. Meanwhile animal control was “down the block”.
You get the impresion everyone panicked, and no cool heads prevailed.
The huge cat looks like some sort of alien when contrasted with the dull and stink of the concrete. It came all this way - back to a city it was eradicted from 100 years ago, only to be instantly gunned down by reactionaries. This story would be like the last Colorado grizzly bear showing up in downtown Denver - only to be isntantly gunned down.
100 years of progress? No.
Abandon hope all ye who enter here. Illinois is a dead end for rare wildlife.
