If the fees are approved, these campgrounds will go from
$5 to $8 per night: South Fork Bay, Tieton Pond, South Fork Tieton, Dog Lake, Halfway Flat (dispersed), Peninsula, Leech Lake (White Pass) and Indian Creek Recreation Area. Crow Creek and American Forks will go from $7 to $8, ahile Kaner Flat will increase from $10 to $12. Group reservation sites will also go up — Clear Lake (10 sites) from $50 to $60, Pine Needle (eight sites) from $30 to $50, Indian Flat (22 sites) from $70 to $100 and Kaner Flat (12 sites) from $50 to $60. The American River Guard Station rental would go from $40 to $60 per night

The drought was considerable last summe,r and this river was much lower than normal. However, the water was still very cold and the fishing was still quite good. Any rains sent dust and a milky cloud into the river. There are many long cathedral-like stretches of water similar to this. Many times you will see an osprey or eagle fly it’s way above the river and below the tops of the trees. The thick woods are home to rare predators such as the grizzly and wolverine.

Colorado Snowmobile Association (CSA) president Janelle Kukuk said Monday that the group is opposed to the proposed 12,840-acre expansion of the Mt. Sneffels Wilderness Area, spearheaded by the Ridgway-Ouray Community Council (ROCC) and endorsed by both Ridgway and Ouray town and city councils, as well as Ouray County’s Board of County Commissioners.

Montana: Suit filed over Big Timber logging project

180 acres may not seem like much, but this will be in a very narrow valley. It’s an absolutely spectacular location in the Crazy Mountains, long regarded for it’s beautiful waterfalls, mountain spires and old growth forest. This project makes no sense at all.

Environmental groups filed a lawsuit Tuesday in Helena District Court in an attempt to halt a 180-acre timber-thinning project in Big Timber Canyon, on the eastern face of the Crazy Mountains.
