Missouri: Wilderness is worth protecting
We conservationists here in southwest Missouri appreciate the News-Leader’s interest in the outdoors, and in wilderness protection for selected lands on the Mark Twain National Forest. But the recent coverage, and especially the Nov. 27 editorial (”No reason to go into wilderness”), seem to reflect some basic misunderstandings, and we welcome the chance to clear the air.
Nebraska: ATV crackdown on national forest land
The rules mark an about-face in policies regarding off-road use. In the past, the government allowed motorized vehicles anywhere on Forest Service land, except where prohibited. Now, off-road motorized vehicles - three- and four-wheelers, motorcycles, pickups and SUVS - will be prohibited everywhere, except on designated routes.
