The Park Service said it collected 122,190 comments on its proposed management plan from March to June. Of those, more than 88,900 - 73 percent of the total - said snow coaches should be the only form of transportation allowed in Yellowstone during winter, the Jackson Hole News & Guide reported.

One of those will be adopted following a 60-day comment period. The Forest Service says its decision will not be subject to judicial review. But it will undoubtedly be challenged again in court, as it should be.

Oregon: Wyden, DeFazio introduce plant to protect old growth forest

Ron Wyden and Congressman Peter DeFazio, both Democrats, want Congress to set aside 13,700 acres of pristine old-growth forest that cradle the headwaters of the Elk River in Siskiyou National Forest. The Copper Salmon Wilderness Act aims to protect giant Douglas fir trees 300 feet tall, endangered Port-Orford cedar and wildlife such as elk, mountain lions and black bears.
Yellowstone employee attacked by grizzly
Ken Meyer, the park’s safety officer, was recovering from surgery Monday following his run-in with the female grizzly near Gardiner, said park spokesman Al Nash. He suffered “deep injuries” including bites to his back and other injuries to his left leg, stomach and both forearms, Nash said.
