Yellowstone: Should we stop counting “generic” votes in presidential elections too?
It shouldn’t matter wether it’s a form letter or a hand crafted letter. These are people speaking out about their public lands. In this case, it’s the massive public dissaproval of snowmobiles in Yellowstone. When your argument is on the incorrect side of science and public opinion, I guess these weak and hollow tactics are all you have left. Sad, really.
A total of 122,190 people commented on the plan. Of them, 116,910 were form letters, most of them e-mails or documents filled out on Web sites and forwarded to the Park Service.
Just 5,280 people wrote individual letters.
Colorado: Off-road riders are on notice
The U.S. Forest Service has begun imposing travel restrictions on off-road vehicles, and it’s about time.
Rules requiring off-road vehicles to remain on designated roads and trails were proposed back in 2004 and took effect in 2005, but they haven’t been universally enforced.
Montana: Here comes September, finally

Vermont: Forest Service, ATV club discussing trails
The group contends that members will help cut down on illegal riders through educating other riders and adding peer pressure on the trails by advocating responsible riding. Many residents in Pownal have spoken out against ATV use along town roads, citing noise and safety issues and a lack of enforcement for illegal riders.

Republicans, worried about the scandal’s effect on next year’s election, suffered a further setback Friday when veteran Republican Sen. John Warner of Virginia announced he will retire rather than seek a sixth term. Democrats captured Virginia’s other Senate seat from the GOP in the 2006 election.
