What will it take for Mark Rey and his anti-public lands gang to understand what “roadless” means? Perhaps the jail term a Montana judge is dangling will finally wake these people up.

Biodiversity Conservation Alliance Wild Species Program Director Duane Short said the group supports the remainder of the travel plan. He noted that there are more than 2,500 miles of motorized roads and trails on the Medicine Bow, and the travel management plan adds 92 miles of off-road vehicle trails. But only about one-fourth of the forest is designated for quiet recreation under the new forest plan.

Montana: Evacuation orders lifted on calmer fires

Cool and relatively humid weather and even rain here and there have given firefighters a leg up on the wildfires burning across Montana, and as a result, most of the evacuation orders have been lifted.

The three Civil Air Patrol members killed are identified by authorities as Lt. Col. James Henderson, 59, and his two passengers, Senior Member James Meyer, 53, and Capt. Patricia Larson, 52.
