The severe threat of wildfire that exists throughout southern and central portions of Idaho has convinced regional fire managers to implement emergency fire restrictions much earlier than they normally would.

The 35,000-acre fire in the Inyo National Forest was mostly contained by Wednesday evening with crews in “mop-up mode,” said fire information officer Jim Wilkins. However, the blaze continued to be listed at just 80 percent containment because officials planned to let the western flank continue burning in an area with little vegetation that was too treacherous for crews to access, he said.
