BENTON, Ill. (AP) - A timber logger must pay more than $19,000 in damages for cutting trees in part of southern Illinois’ Shawnee National Forest nearly a decade ago.

A 900 acre fire continues to burn outside the town of West Yellowstone, Montana. It is being called the Madison Arm Fire.

Wyoming: Bridget-Teton National Forest fire grows to 2200 acres

The Horse Creek fire was burning 2,200 acres eight miles west of Merna Tuesday, up from about 1,200 Monday afternoon. Firefighters had expected to have the blaze contained early this week, but had only contained 10 percent as of Tuesday afternoon.

Yeah, those awful clean water grants. Better veto those. Also, the bill would cut back on taxpayer funding for logging roads in the Tongass National Forest and stops offshore drilling.

Democrats argue such programs have gotten short shrift for years under President Bush’s leadership, but their resulting increases for items such as Environmental Protection Agency clean water grants have incited the White House into threatening to veto the bill as “irresponsible and excessive.”

Pennsylvania: Drillers want access to Allegheny National Forest

Don’t they alreadyhave enough? The Allegheny National Forest is one of the most drill-ridden forests in the nation.

The Pennsylvania Oil & Gas Association and Pennsylvania General Energy have appealed provisions of the new Allegheny National Forest management plan that it claims infringe on the rights of oil and gas companies to drill in the forest.
