Montana: Rocky Mountain Front drilling ban working well

Animals big and small, peaceful and dangerous range along the Front, the eastern margins of the sprawling Bob Marshall Wilderness complex.

The rocky peaks are visible from a hundred miles away, and the lifestyle — including the ag and recreation industries — the area supports cannot be matched elsewhere.

Now we can hunt the Yellowstone grizzly, but why would we want to? (audio)

Wyoming, Montana and Idaho game agencies were preparing bear hunting rules before the official announcement was made last month. Some people never stopped shooting bears as vermin, even when the bears were endangered and totally protected. (It’s called “shoot, shut up and shovel.”) We could wait a year at least to make sure we get this right.

Much of the land that swamp buggy riders have targeted to expand their trail network in Big Cypress National Preserve is eligible to be designated as wilderness, a move that would prohibit such vehicles.

Wyoming: Meeting on wells in Hoback roadless area

Also known as the Hoback Wells, the project consists of three exploratory oil and gas wells proposed in a roadless area of Bridger-Teton National Forest 40 miles southeast of Jackson. The well site is close to Muddy Creek, which flows directly into the upper Hoback River, in an area well known for its diversity and abundance of wildlife.
