Canada seeks input on North Fork Flathead coal plan

This is the ominous North Fork coal project just 22 miles north of Glacier National Park. It could severely damage the water quality of the pristine North Fork of the Flathead.

The mine, in short, would take off the top of a mountain in the Foisey Creek drainage, a tributary to the North Fork of the Flathead.

Forecasters for Bridger-Teton National Forest reported that ski patrollers at the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort on Thursday morning triggered more than 50 “significant” slides, some with crowns as deep as 5 feet. The Wyoming Department of Transportation provoked a slide in Glory Bowl that ran to Highway 22 on Thursday morning. The agency also reported two natural slides down the Cow of the Woods path above Highway 191 in Hoback Canyon.

Harrisburg, IL, December 4, 2006 — The seasonal closure of designated equestrian trails within the Garden of the Gods, Bay Creek and Lusk Creek Wildernesses to all equestrian or stock use is from December 1, 2006 through March 31, 2007. The seasonal closure of level 1 and 2 (dirt and grass) roads within the Shawnee National Forest to motorized vehicles is from December 4, 2006 through May 11, 2007.

As a supporter of wildlife and national parks, I am writing to express concern about Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corporation’s (NYSE: BNI) alleged plan to use military artillery and other explosives for avalanche control in the southern boundary of Glacier National Park.

Since the early 1900s, many small mammals in California have shifted their ranges dramatically, mostly to higher elevations.

Yellowstone domes rising at “really pronounced” pace

Geologists from the University of Utah say two domes inside the Yellowstone caldera have steadily inflated at two to three times the rate as some of the most rapid movements recorded between 1923 and 1984.
