Utah: Governor Huntsman riles anglers, hunters over extreme anti-roadless plan
As Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. inches closer to presenting the state’s roadless forest petition to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, opposition is mounting to his proposal, which calls for a repeal of all roadless forest protection in Utah.
Now, it is hunters, anglers and former state wildlife officials who are raising red flags.
South Carolina: Fall of the Frog
Interesting story about how clearcutting effects amphibians.
Dramatic declines in amphibian populations, including population crashes and mass localized extinctions, have been noted in the past two decades from locations all over the world.
Colorado: Half of the national forest campgrounds in three national forests to be wiped out
As this plan creates a “crisis”, look for interested parties to come forth with “entrepreneurial solutions”. This is a window for privatization. Contact the USFS and tell them what you think:

The three forests on the Western Slope cover 3 million acres and encompass lands around Telluride, Crested Butte and Gunnison.

Montana: Governor worried about Rock Creek mine draining alpine lakes
”Their biggest challenge is on top of the Cabinet Mountains there are several naturally occurring lakes and there are faults that run through that mountain range,” Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer told The Associated Press in a recent interview. ”Unless they can demonstrate that they are going to be able to pierce into that mountain and not allow that fault to drain those lakes, they are not going to get those permits.”
Montana: Wilderness bill still elusive despite democratic gains?
My personal opinion is that the majority of the nation would back more wilderness areas on the *public* federal land in Montana - and I think the majority of people in Montana feel the same way.
However, Montanans still are talking and dreaming about more permanent protection for places like Scotchman Peaks in the Kootenai National Forest, the Great Burn in the Lolo and Clearwater national forests and additions to the Bob Marshall Wilderness in the Flathead, Lolo and Lewis and Clark national forests and the Sleeping Giant on Bureau of Land Management lands north of Helena.
